Bounty Killer Invests in Sushi
Jamaica’s long-time leading deejay, Bounty Killer, is reportedly a co-partner in a Japanese restaurant (Katana Express) that opened at the upscale Loshusan Supermarket in Barbican in summer of this year. Bounty Killer’s manager – Julian Jones-Griffith – and the husband and wife team of Kaz and Michiko Asonuma are said to be the other co-partners in the business venture.
Kaz Asonuma is reportedly a key investor in Sly & Robbie’s Taxi Gang label. He first came to Jamaica in 1984 from Japan as a diplomat, then fell in love with the island’s culture and music and eventually quit his post in Japan’s Ministry of Affairs in 1999 in order to be fully involved in music with Sly & Robbie.
From Bounty Killer’s perspective, the idea behind the investment was mainly to diversify his investment portfolio. They originally intended to invest in Restaurant Japan, located at the Hilton Hotel in New Kingston, however those negotiations were put on hold and the Loshusan Supermarket option pursued instead.
