Auto-Tune definition via Wikipedia: a proprietary audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies that uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise inaccuracies and mistakes and has allowed many artists to produce more precisely tuned recordings.

We hear it constantly these days … the chorus or hook in a song where the voice has been modified to sound slightly electronic / robotic. Dancehall deejay Munga Honorebel in Jamaica and American R&B singer T-Pain are two artistes that seemingly use it for many of their songs. Today in the Jamaica Observer, Steven Jackson does another good article, this time he looks at the prevalence of auto-tune use – both locally and abroad.

He says twenty per cent of the Billboard Top 50 singles currently utilize the auto-tune sound effect. Click here to see his detailed look at auto-tune.
