Legal Issues Prevent Airing of New Mavado Video on BET
Mavado’s brand new “So Special” video was due to premier on BET’s 106 & Park yesterday evening, but many viewers were left baffled as the video was never shown.
Alliance Entertainment, Mavado’s management team, has issued a press release this morning, outlining that BET’s legal team had last minute objections to the video, particularly its “excessive display of alcohol” and “careless use of women as writhing set dressings!” Notably, Alliance Entertainment has outlined that when the video was first submitted to BET, they flagged several issues and it went through three different edits before final approval.
Here’s the main body of Alliance Entertainment’s release: “We were as surprised as everyone at BET’s decision not to follow through on their promise to premier the “So Special” video on yesterday’s 106 & Park. Despite 106 & Park’s presenters hyping the premier for several days, including showing clips from the video, a last minute intervention by someone in the legal department prevented the video from airing. The anticipation was very high for the BET premier, and we weren’t notified until late in the day that there was a last minute objection by one of the legals over there, who had a censorship issue. He objected to “excessive display of alcohol” and “careless use of women as writhing set dressings!” The video is now available to watch online so people can make up their own minds about that.“The show’s programmer had passed the video and had been running promos so she was livid at the decision. It’s disappointing but all is not lost. If anything, this may help publicise the video even more. Mavado can’t seem to step without some form of controversy!”

free up d video on 106 d video good man weh dem a deal wid???
This is madness!! I don’t have to see the video to judge anything! Excessive use of alcohol?? BET, let me ask you this, Jim Jone’s video fet. Ron Brownz, yes, the POP CHAMPAGNE one, it’s water that in those bottles??? friggen double standard!!! It’s all good tho…and to make matters worst, after Roxy an Terrence continuously promoted that the video will be aired on Monday, Jan. 26/09 – not even a simple apology???
what da fck!! how dem a fight against di artiste so?? dem no waa see dancehall make grounds, i guess hip hop is afraid of the competition
im a fan of mavado from belize. i have’nt seen the video yet but if it needs to be cleaned up then clean up di video man we dont want to be sending the wrong message, the abuse of alchohol and degrading of women in videos is bad enough as it is lets try to do better. (big up the alliance anyway dem deh) the video needs to be on the countdown so lets make it happen. (Boom Bang)
Absurd!! This video is NO different then any other video on BET!! BET needs to be more accepting to dancehall/reggae!! They show way more rubbish on BET and it’s okay then?! It don’t make sense!! Big up Mavado…BET just hating!
This is plain HYPOCRISY BET. Shame on you! This is a case of cok mouth kill cock. Look at how many rap videos depict the same categories of excessive alcohol and loosely dressed women. Come one BET wake uop and smell de SH.. and call a spade a spade.
wha di f- mi watch 106 hole last night no vid dem try to fite vado down di man bad
It’s ridiculous, there are so many other videos on and have been on the countdown with worst acts etc…i mean, a big example is pop champagne…..come on…yea is that sugar and water in the bottles????????? straight hypocrisy….they didnt even have the decency to apologize or explained what happened….this is sad.
There is NOTHING wrong with the video. NOTHING. BET to damn 2face. Ah money dem want fi play di video. Too friggin tief!!!!
This is so typical for Americans, I don’t even know why we get upset. Black America itself fights against it’s own black people; don’t need much help from the non-blacks.Movado is huge around the world but BET is playing him as if he is new to the game. How different is the Movado video to any other Rap, RnB video that is aired on Bet?? I think the ” HIP HOP” industry doesn’t like to share the lime light especially since simply airing his video would of sparked a match the would of started a fire that could not of been extinguished.
Poor people always ah get a fight, only because timing and opportunity is all they need to show those who have been doing it HOW IT’S REALLY DONE!
BET!!!! what the hell is going on??? we all se clearly that there is nothing wrong with the video, the video would have probably reach the number 1 spot if you people had aired it!!straight up thats some bullshit right there why are you hating on the artist…I’ve seen dem damn uncut videos on BET and it’s a disgrace because you see NELLY kissing girls ass..you see dem grinding and gallavanting and yall..ddon’t see anything wrong with that??? yall don’t see them so call rap artists pooring champagne all over females body and see them grinding on each other..and it’s not a problem yall need to be SHOT!!! STRAIGHT UP….JAMAICA MI A REP TUH DI FULLEST BET GUH S- UNO SELF STRAIGHT A LIKE UNO NUH LIKE JAMAICAN’S BUT UNO CAH STOP WE CAUSE WAH A WE A TEK OVA THE MUSIC BUSINESS WEH UNO FEEL LIKE?????
It is so sad to see what Reggae music have become so baseless the song is baseless and this video all so baseless.
Please remember that their are some black people in this counrty that dont like jamaicans, and employee’s at bet are no different bias agains jamaicans because reggae is bigger than hip hop ,so they are threaten by our progess, remember we have europe down pack plus japan and all of africa
What I cannot understand now ,look how much money our reggae artist make’s over the years. why we cannot own a major Record company,a north american cable tv station ,or a major fm radio station like everyone else .This is a darn shame on our part it is just like asking a man every day to give you a ride because you are too worthless to buy yourself a car.Reggae is so big right now all we need to do is to invest in our self it is because we dont have a radio and tv stations why bet did this to us. Any day we ever own a fm radio or tv station in the us you will see what happend or even a strong record and distributing label give them competition some thing is wrong as black jamaicans we dont own anything
Dis yah video yah weak cyaa’n done! It lacks integrity: even the “writhing” women n’aa seh nutt’n! At the same time, in light of BET’s willingness to display said “writhing” women all the time, I don’t understand their choice to draw the line at this one. All the same, I’m not about to get worked up over this episode. I would probably feel a lot be strongly if Mavado showed some respect for women and for his craft and didn’t put his name on crap like this. As far as I am concerned, all yuh who a defend dis yah foolishness really need fi check unnu self y’hear? That’s why folks like Mavado keep making stuff like this video: because we think we must swallow anything, including shit, if it come from Jamaica. Putting this kind of debased material out there – even if there’s already much like it all over BET and elsewhere – does not add value to being Jamaican; it just mek di artist look falla-fahshin an’ without any kind of self-respect. Be a leader, not a follower: use the craft to set new standards, rather than feeding on the what-left. Pathetic.
