Veteran dancehall deejay Risto Benjie (real name – Michael Benjamin), who burst on the scene in the mid-1980s as a teenager, has been arrested and charged with robbery with aggravation, and is currently being held in custody at the Spanish Town police station without bail.

Allegations are that he was on Burke Road in Spanish Town earlier this week, and offered to give a lady a lift on his motorcycle (for a fee). The lady reportedly agreed, but instead of taking her to her destination, he diverted from the route, then pulled a knife and demanded her handbag. She refused, and it is alleged that he grabbed her cellular phone and left the scene.

The woman made an alarm, and police officers who were on patrol in the area managed to nab Risto Benjie; he was charged with robbery with aggravation. Dancehall.Mobi will provide more details as soon as available.

Risto Benjie is most known for a handful of hits in the 1980s and early 1990s including “Gimme The Money”, “Passport Buddy” and “Gun Johncrow”. He was also a protege of the “Grammy Kid” at the height of Shabba Ranks’ career.
