Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson Has Died
Dancehall.Mobi has just been reliably informed, that Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson, one half of the outstanding dancehall production duo Steely & Clevie, has died. Just a few days ago, a media report indicated that he was suffering from pneumonia and was in critical condition at a New York hospital. His long-time musical partner Clevie Brownie had reportedly said that the chance of his survival was slim; and so it was. Condolences to the family, friends and associates of one of the most outstanding and influential producers of dancehall music ever.

I am so shocked just heard via my email. Steely you were one of the most kind and warmest man I am ever fortunate enough to have entered in my life. There are so many memories which I will cherish for the rest of my life. Each time I make lemon sugar water I always remember you, I remember the first time I had fish from Helshire beach you said to me you soon come and left me at the studio and when you came back you had all this roast fish to this day it is the best fish i ever had. I am gutted I can’t believe it. Another legend goes but his presence will live on – he left the world a wonderful legacy in his music and those you were blessed to have known him. Rest In Peace Mr Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson
Steely,
I am so shocked and saddened by your death. I only wish I would have been able to know before today, so I could come say my “Goodbye.” I appreciate knowing you, and I am grateful I can think back to many things that made us laugh so hard.
You are the most brilliant musician I have ever known, and I need dancehall music more than food and sleep. My eyes are red from crying, and I know that this will soon pass, but for now it just hurts so bad. Rest in Peace, Steely Boom
