Kurt Riley Fined For Noise Abatement Act Breaches
Dancehall.Mobi news update – popular FAME-FM radio disco jock / sound system selector, Kurt Riley, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court last week where he faced charges of disorderly conduct, using indecent language and breaches of the Noise Abatement Act.
According to the court report, Riley was playing at an event in New Kingston on October 4, and the music was audible beyond 100 meters. He was reportedly told by the police to stop the music, but Riley allegedly started cursing and behaving in a disorderly manner, and continued playing the music. He was then arrested and charged.
In court last week, Riley reportedly pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined as follows:
- J$2000 or 10 days in prison for disorderly conduct
- J$2000 or 10 days in prison for using indecent language
- J$5000 or 10 days in prison for breaching the Noise Abatement Act
Judging by the size of the fines, we have assumed that Kurt Riley paid them and went about his business.
