1939 – the first Jamaican radio station, VP5 PZ, which has been donated to the Government by John Girvan (an estate owner and amateur radio operator), is officially inaugurated by Governor Arthur Richards. It begins a daily broadcast from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and operates from a house on Seaview Avenue in St. Andrew.
Year unknown – reggae singer Edi Fitzroy is born.
