Kurt Riley Reviving The Techniques Legacy
Late last month, Dancehall.Mobi noted that Winston Riley, veteran dancehall / reggae / rocksteady producer and founder of rocksteady vocal group The Techniques, was rebuilding a studio (and museum) at the same location that had previously housed his legendary Techniques Records label. It had been burnt down by arsonists in September. Now, another step has been taken to revive the Techniques legacy.
Winston Riley’s son, popular Fame-FM disco jock and music producer Kurt Riley, told Dancehall.Mobi today that his own AMG Productions label now falls under the Techniques banner, and that he will be looking to carry on his father’s legacy by continuing to put out good quality dancehall and reggae music – dancing music, conscious music and music with sweet vocals.
With that said, fans can look out for two big riddims from Riley in early 2010. The first is a reggae production called the Eternity riddim, and it will feature songs by Torch, Timeka Marshall, Beres Hammond, and one called “Here To Stay” by Morgan Heritage which is featured on their “The Journey Thus Far” compilation album as a bonus track. The second is a dancehall riddim called the ‘European Swing’.
Additionally, the awesome Techniques music catalogue is being archived properly at this time, and plans are in the works for a website where fans will be able to buy, download and listen directly online. Big things are in store for the Techniques record label in 2010; Dancehall.Mobi will have the news on this as it becomes available.
