Dancehall.Mobi special update – with Gully/Gaza tensions clearly extending way beyond his own camp and the camp of his arch rival Vybz Kartel into the day to day lives of Jamaicans and music fans of all ages at home and abroad, dancehall singjay Mavado extended the proverbial olive branch to Kartel last week, only to have it flatly rejected.

Not only has he rejected the peace offering, but Vybz Kartel has cranked the war up another notch (or two) with a new song called “Rifle Shot” that was ironically recorded on the Israel riddim, a new riddim production by DJ Frass whose loyalty is known to lie with Mavado. Frass is featured in today’s Star newspaper stating that he did not endorse Kartel’s song, and that his riddim version was basically taken and used without his permission.

On “Rifle Shot”, not only does Kartel fire off the usual disses at his former mentor Bounty Killer and Mavado, but he also mentions Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor, his one-time producer of choice. McGregor’s Big Ship production house has reportedly been at odds with Kartel since earlier this year, purportedly for ‘business’ reasons. This is the first time however that Kartel has ‘taken the war’ publicly to the McGregor clan, and as unfortunate as this turn of events is, it will be interesting to see what next unfolds. “Rifle Shot” is featured below.
