Relaunch Of Silverhawk Sound – Jamaica
Dancehall.Mobi special update – it was a blast from the past last night at Medusa’s on Hope Road in Kingston, as the legendary Silver Hawk sound system was relaunched, and tribute paid to its late founder – Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson. Quite a few entertainers and Jamaican music industry aficionados of the 1980s and 1990s were on hand for the event including Jack Scorpio, Bobby Digital, Exodus Nuclear sound, Squad 51 sound, Penny Irie, Bongo Herman, Captain Barkey and Wickerman. There was also a short performance segment which featured Mr. G (Goofy), Buccaneer, Singing Sweet and Screechy Joe.
Cleveland ‘Clevie’ Browne was on hand to give an intro and a bit of the history behind Silverhawk, and veteran Silverhawk selector Richie Poo played some classic Silverhawk dubplates from the past. Below we’ve featured some audio that was recorded at last night’s event. Note, it was recorded live from air (like back in the early cassette days), so there is some background noise and chatter.
It would be nice if you can add download liks to di Silverhawk audio so mi can d/l dem.. Just for my own use…
