Jimmy Cliff Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
Earlier tonight, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, Jamaican reggae legend Jimmy Cliff was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was inducted by hip hop/R&B artiste Wyclef Jean, and thus became only the second reggae artiste (the legendary Bob Marley was the first) to be inducted into this prestigious hall of fame.
In his acceptance speech, Cliff thanked the Hall of Fame Museum for honoring a non-American who sings a new genre of music that was introduced to the world from Jamaica. He reportedly said that joining the hall of fame was “another stepping stone to higher heights.” After his acceptance speech, Cliff performed three of his classics – “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” “Many Rivers to Cross” solo, and “The Harder They Come” with Wyclef Jean. A quick scan of comments on the popular social networking site Twitter immediately following his performance indicate that his short set was outstanding, and rated by many as one of the best ever.
