Government Investigating Kartel St. Lucia Work Permit Issue
The Jamaican Government, is reportedly investigating the island nation of St. Lucia’s recent decision to deny dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel a work permit to perform there. According to reports, Jamaica’s Trade Ministry has contacted Jamaica’s High Commission in Trinidad (which has responsibility for St. Lucia) about the matter, as there is a concern that St. Lucia’s decision may be in breach of CARICOM’s Free Movement of Trade Initiative – which specifies the right of CARICOM nationals to seek employment in any CARICOM nation.
Jamaica and St. Lucia are two of the fifteen Full Members of CARICOM, an organization of Caribbean nations and dependencies, which seeks to promote economic integration and cooperation among its members.
