I am very upset by this news having heard Sugar over the years and met him on facebook, surprisingly on his Birthday a few weeks back. He commands utmost respect and I love his humble attitude.. to write to an everyday person and show interest in them when you are a reggae icon is the mark of a truly great man.. and Sugar was that and more. In his words to me.. ‘Nuff respect and love always’. R.I.P. my friend xx ~Jaz~
Miss you already Sugar.. a new friend on my facebook page however an old friend through your music.
I believe you were a truly great man, communicating with everyday people like myself on a very real level. A reggae icon yet a humble man. In your own words.. ‘Nuff love & respect always..going out to you Sugar’ xx R.I.P.xx ~Jaz~
I met Sugar Minott in the 80′s in San Diego, and he encouraged me to DJ. One of the highlights of my life was doing a local stageshow in Jamaica at Beechwood Ave in Kingston, and having Jamaicans beat the zinc fence when dem hear mi pon di mike. A wicked lick dat..My favorite tune by Sugar goes “*ah thank you for the birds and the bees, Jah thank you for the breeze and the trees, …” just lovey. A who can forget ‘HERBSMAN HUSTLING”. WHEW ! That changed dancehall…;lessings and thanks for your love and friendship. You will be missed, but I know the Angels are glad to have you in their chior….RIP bredren, anf give Steely a hug for me…I can see the two a you, chillin’ di pon di corner in Heaven….
On the behalf of the Myrrhvilla Road family, as one of Lincoln Sugar Minott’s greatest fans for over forty years, he was a great icon for the Kingston 12, 5, 13, 11 and others. Sugar is always smiling, never vex, always giving, always helping, a tower of strength to his community, family and friends, sometimes putting friends before family. Performing for free sometimes when other artists are requesting a million dollars. Sugar comes from humble, unique beginnings. Well-mannered, groomed and principled. Not a lover of war. A lovers man, loved by young, old, middle-classed and all in between. Always in the company of the youth. Always contributing to community growth even without physical return. Sugar loves his children Pashon, Andrew, Alton (now deceased), Tamar, Danny, Lincoln, Debbie, he was a tower of strength for them and them for him. He educated them, he was a father, mother, lover any good thing you can think of, and he is missed by Sharon Myrrhvilla, my daughter Sophia Biggs in U.K, Dean in U.K, Paul in U.S, Richie in U.S and Annette Hunter in U.S, Mr Tarzan, Mr Baba, Mr Stanley, Timmy, Tammy, and dear, ardent friend Bully. May your soul rest in peace. Condolensces to his mother especially, God knows best. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
truly a legend indeed my condolences goes out to his immediate family. RIP Sugar.

A friend of mine called to give me the sad news that Sugar Minott, a childhood friend of mine passed away. We grew up in the Maxfield area of Kingston, Jamaica where we started a youth club (with others) called Deltot (Delamere and Totley Avenues) United; I was the president. Sugar later started his singing career with a group called the African Brothers that included Mr. T, more popular known as Tony Tuff and Leeds who kept Sugar in check for rehearsal practices. The last time I saw Sugar in person was over a decade ago at a show on Long Island, NY where we reminisce about our youthful days. My condolences to his family, especially his brother, Precious who is also a friend of mine, stay strong. Stitch (Winston)
What a sad day…
May he find perfect peace his music was upflifting and always a fulljoy! R.I.P Sugar Minott!!!
